Using Predictive SEO

predictive seo

Predictive SEO. Have you been getting the results you want from your search engine optimization campaigns? If not, it may be time to rethink your strategy. Recently an approach to digital marketing known as Predictive SEO has emerged as an effective way to drive more traffic to a website. Let’s take a look at what predictive SEO is and some tips on how it can help your business.

What is Predictive SEO?

The concept of predictive SEO is quite simple, even though the execution may be somewhat sophisticated in execution. It is the practice of using analytical tools to predict keywords (topics) or keyword phrases that will be frequently used on search engines such as Google or Bing. With this data, your company’s marketing department can update old content with the new keywords to position your website to benefit from the keywords as they grow in popularity.

Use the Past to Predict the Future

Some keyword trends are seasonal and don’t require much forethought. An example of seasonal keyword phrases would be something related to a holiday such as Christmas trees, Thanksgiving turkey, Fourth of July fireworks. These keywords are cyclical and can be timed to be used in a blog post or other content to drive traffic to your website. Let’s look at another example to illustrate how predictive SEP works. If you are a florist, there are certain days that your business is expected to be busy such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day; it does not make sense to focus too much of your SEO efforts on those days because they are the busiest days of the year for a florist. Instead, our florist should look at a seasonal trend that requires flowers, such as weddings.

Using keyword phrases such as wedding flowers, bridal bouquets, wedding floral arrangements, etcetera, will turn up in searches related to weddings. Most weddings take place in May and June, so you would need to create content with the aforementioned phrases as early as March to get in front of the trend.

All it takes to take advantage of seasonal keyword phrases is a little planning in advance. Seasonal trends are not the only way to take advantage of predictive SEO; there is also looking at the use of past keywords.

Audit Your Content

Using an analytical tool, you can examine keywords relevant to the business that you may or may not have used in the past. By looking at the past performance of keywords, you can make a more informed choice of which keywords to add to your content in order to get the attention of search engine crawlers. Use keywords that have had a track record of performing well, but again, be sure it is relevant to your business. If you use keywords that are irrelevant to your content or the type of goods or services you offer, you will be penalized by search engines. Once you have determined which keywords would be best to use, go over old content, and replace similar keywords with better-performing ones. This action will drive traffic to an old blog or a seldom-visited product page.

Some Predictive SEO Tools to Use

Google Trends

Google Trends is a must for predictive SEO because Google shows you what emerging trends are so you can use them. You are also getting the data straight from the source. Google is still, by far, king of the hill when it comes to internet searches, so it only makes sense to use Google Trends to find keywords that are becoming more frequently used. And it’s free to boot!

Moz Pro

Moz pro is a paysite that lets you analyze not only your data but also the tools to forecast SEO trends. With customizable reports on SEO and a host of other features, Moz Pro is worth the investment.
